Men's Basketball Falls to No. 5 LSU Alexandria

SAN ANTONIO (Dec. 21, 2024) - In a physical NAIA top-20 showdown at Mabee Gymnasium, the Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) men's basketball team dropped their second game of the season, falling 85-71 to LSU Alexandria on Saturday afternoon. The Saints looked to snap the Generals six-game winning streak, but came up short in their final game of the 2024 calendar year. Four Saints finished the game in double figures, led by Rob Gil and Kenyon Elliot who each finished with 12 points. Trey Law added 11 points while Wahkil Lopez added 10 to go with a game-high four blocks. 

OLLU got out to a quick start, builind a 15-5 advantage just five minutes into the contest. Over the next five minutes, the Generals would use an 11-6 run to make it 21-16 midway through the opening half. LSUA continued to chip away at the OLLU lead, but the Saints managed to stay in front for the remainder of the half. The teams traded three-point baskets in the last 20 seconds of the half to make it 39-38 in favor of the Saints at the break. Gil scored 10 of his 12 points in the first half while Lopez added eight points.

LSUA gained its first lead of the game 30 seconds into the second half and never surrendered it back to the Saints, leading by as many as 18. The Generals outrebounded the Saints by a count of 57-40 including 27 on the offensive glass. 

The Saints committed a season-high 21 turnovers in the loss that resulted in 22 LSUA points. The Saints scored 23 points off of 17 LSUA turnovers. 

Next up for the Saints will be University of the Southwest on January on January 2.
