Gaisford Ties for First Place as Saints Finish Play at Southwest Fall Invitational

HOBBS, N.M. (Oct. 8, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's golf team finished in third place out of 10 teams at the Fall Invitational hosted by the University of the Southwest (USW). The tournament was played at the Rockwind Community Links Golf Course on Monday and Tuesday and has a par of 71. 

Head Coach Arnie Martinez commented, "The men played good at the Southwest Fall Invitational. I'm proud of how they competed. Rockwind Country Club was a great test of golf and it wasn't easy out there. Congratulations to Oliver Gaisford on his tied for first finish. He played great this tournament. I'm excited to see what he does in the future. Congratulations to Oscar Gutierrez on his tied for fourth finish and Niall Langley-Brook placing tied for eighth. The team has been working hard and it was good to see them put some good golf together. We know what we need to work on to improve for Plainview next week."

The Saints (300/287/299=886) jumped to a third place finish on Tuesday after being in fourth place at the end of play yesterday. Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) won the tournament at 293/281/294=868. TWU's B team took second place at 297/289/284=870. Texas A&M University-San Antonio finished behind the Saints in fourth place at 301/282/304=887. McMurry University grabbed fifth place at 296/298/301=895, followed by USW at 305/290/306=901, Concordia University at 316/294/305=915, Oklahoma Panhandle State University at 309/309/307=925, Mesalands Community College at 325/329/326=980 and USW B team at 324/326/339=989.

Oliver Gaisford had a spectacular tournament by finishing tied for first place at 70/66/72=208. Oscar Gutierrez placed in the top five at fourth with 71/73/72=216. Niall Langley-Brook took eighth place at 76/69/73=218, followed by John Martinez in 24th place at 71/78/77=226, Andreas Skaar in 31st place at 78/72/78=229, Jake Casias in 38th place at 81/76/77=234 and Ozil Salinas in 44th place at 80/77/78=235.
