SAN ANTONIO – The UHV men's soccer team left it to the absolute last second on Thursday.
But a deflection off a cross from Daniel Connell's 90th minute cross found its way into the net and salvaged an important 1-1 draw for the Jaguars against Our Lady of the Lake on the road. OLLU center back Harry Acklam was credited with the own goal which gave UHV the draw.
UHV (10-3-2, 8-3-1) out-shot the Saints (4-8-3, 4-5-3) 17-7 despite suboptimal field conditions due to rain in San Antonio. Junior forward Klaidas Pudlauskas had a team-high six shots, with two on goal, in his 50 minutes of work. Junior defender Adam Thompson and freshman forward Jose Luis Sanchez each had two shots on goal, as well. Thompson had four shots overall.
Sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Kaeppeli made three saves for the Jaguars on Thursday.
UHV fell behind late in the first half after Christian Govea Mireles scored unassisted in the 44th minute to open the scoring.
The Jaguars currently sit in fourth place in the RRAC with one match remaining in the regular season. UHV currently has 25 points in the standings while fifth-place Jarvis Christian entered Thursday on 23 points. The top four teams host the RRAC Quarterfinals next week.
UHV hosts Texas A&M-San Antonio at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday for Senior Day to close out the regular season.
