West Ties Stolen Base Record in Opening Round Defeat
SAN ANTONIO – Emma West stole second base in the top of the sixth to tie the program record of 68 throughout her career, as Taylor fell 9-1 against No. 2 Our Lady of Lake in the NAIA Opening Round.
West had been within one for over a month after she missed a majority of the final two weeks of the regular season. Her latest swipe puts her at 68 in her career, which ties her with Alex Lovelace for the program record. The senior previously set the single-season record for stolen bases with 36 in her sophomore campaign.
Delaynee McCreary also swiped a base after drawing a walk to lead off the third inning, for the sixth stolen base of her freshman season.
Her namesake, Delaney Barton, provided the only other base hit for Taylor, blasting her second home run of the season for the lone run of the game for TU.
The Saints (48-5) plated four runs in the bottom of the first to secure an early lead, which they held throughout the rest of the game.
OLLU scored once more before Barton's home run and followed that with four unanswered runs, including a walk-off single in the bottom of the sixth.
Taylor (26-31) will continue its run in the NAIA Opening Round against No. 19 Campbellsville (31-16), looking to evade elimination, with a first pitch set for 2:00 pm.
