Jaguars Dominate OLLU and Advance to RRAC Postseason Tournament

SAN ANTONIO – The Texas A&M University-San Antonio men's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over Our Lady of the Lake University and earned a spot in the Red River Athletic Conference tournament for the first time in program history. The Jaguars finish the regular season with a record of 7-4-3, 5-3-3 RRAC).

The men's soccer team honored its seniors before today's match. Seniors Victor Villarreal (San Antonio, Texas/Stevens), Joe Kamuntu (Cape Town, South Africa/Oude Molen), and Luis Aceves (Phoenix, Arizona) played their final home match for the Jaguars this afternoon.

Freshman Efren Duarte (San Antonio, Texas/Marshall) led the charge for TAMUSA with two goals on the day. Sophomore Sebastian Sanchez (Garland, Texas/IDEA) and freshman Giovani Garcia (San Antonio, Texas) also added a goal in today's contest.

How It Happened

TAMUSA dominated the pitch from start to finish. Just five minutes into the match, freshman Gilberto Aguirre (Laredo, Texas/United) assisted Duarte for his sixth goal of the season. The Jaguars were up 1-0 early but remained aggressive. A&M-San Antonio put up five more shots before the Saints finally responded with a shot of their own.

In the 26th minute, the TAMUSA lead stretched to 2-0 after freshman Dante Yosef Valencia (San Antonio, Texas/Lee) found Sanchez in open space for his second goal of the season. A few minutes later Duarte found the back of the net for his seventh goal of the season thanks to an assist from sophomore Sebastian Palomino (Bogota, Colombia / Warren).

With just over five minutes in the first half, Garcia took a free kick from about 23 yards out and buried it to give A&M-San Antonio a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the half.

OLLU took the first shot of the second half but it was just wide of the goal. The Jaguars followed that up with two shots but neither of them found the back of the net.

Both offenses were fairly quiet in the second half. Each team took one corner kick a piece and the Jaguars took one more shot than the Saints (8). The four first half goals proved to be more than enough to lift the Jaguars to history.

TAMUSA will await their final seeding to see who they will be matched up with in the first round of the RRAC tournament.
