SAN ANTONIO – The UHV baseball team split its Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader with Our Lady of the Lake on Saturday at Missions Baseball Academy.
The Jaguars (8-5, 2-4) won Game 1, 9-4, before falling 5-1 in Game 2 and dropping the series 2-1.
UHV rallied for nine unanswered runs in the first game, including a two-run home run by Juan Martin in the fourth inning to break a 1-1 tie. The junior from Cordoba, Argentina, finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs.
His RBI single in the fifth inning put the Jaguars up 5-1 and proved to be the difference in the game.
Senior outfielder Raul Lopez was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs. Jean Michael Gonzalez, Hayden Leopold and Juan Perez each had one RBI.
Gonzalez extended his season-leading hit streak to seven games with hits in each of the two games Saturday.
Sophomore Brady Parker earned his third win of the season after allowing one run on four hits with five strikeouts during six innings of work in Game 1. Drew Bradbury pitched the final inning for UHV.
Leopold scored the Jaguars' lone run in Game 2 via an error.
Julian Garcia was charged with the loss in Game 2 with a final line of four runs – three earned – on six hits with three strikeouts through six innings.
Justin Mireles allowed one run in two innings of relief for UHV.
The Jaguars will next face No. 21 Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. on Monday at Rice University's Reckling Park. Tickets for the game can be purchased here.
