Jags fall to OLLU in series opener
SAN ANTONIO – The UHV baseball team was shutout in a 6-0 loss to Our Lady of the Lake in their series opener on Friday at the Missions Baseball Academy.
The Jaguars (8-4, 1-3) scattered eight hits, but stranded seven runners and were caught stealing twice in the loss.
Freshman Kyle Barosh was the only UHV player with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 at the plate on Friday. Jean Michael Gonzalez, Hayden Leopold, Raul Lopez, Juan Martin, Hal Perez and Jose Montanez had one hit each.
It was the fifth straight game with a hit for Gonzalez.
The Saints (8-7, 2-2) opened the scoring with a three-run third inning thanks to an RBI double by Jack Kalisky and a two-run single by Diego Zuniga. They tacked on two more in the fourth and one more in the sixth.
Mason Longoria was the pitcher of record for UHV, allowing five runs on eight hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings pitched.
Carson McKenna allowed one run on two hits with two strikeouts in two innings of relief. Matthew Mejia pitched a hitless eighth inning, allowing just one walk while striking out one.
The series concludes Saturday with a noon doubleheader.
