Our Lady of the Lake
UHV dropped its Red River Athletic Conference opener to Our Lady of the Lake, 4-2, at Riverside Stadium on Friday.
The Jags (5-8, 0-1) scored their two runs in the bottom of the ninth on a 2-run home run to left-center field by catcher Haldamel Perez (SO/Camuy, Puerto Rico), his third of the year. Perez also drove in Raul Lopez (SR/El Paso, TX), who reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Lopez had UHV's first hit of the night with a leadoff double in the seventh inning.
Mason Longoria (SO/Victoria, TX) picked up no decision after a strong start in which he tied a season-high of seven strikeouts and allowed only four hits in seven innings of work.
Allen Hernandez (JR/Del Rio, TX) was the pitcher of record for UHV in two innings of relief.
OLLU (7-6, 1-0) scored two runs in each the eighth and ninth innings.
The two teams will conclude their series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at noon. The first game is scheduled for seven innings and the second is scheduled for nine.
