Eagles open conference play with split in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — The A&M-Texarkana men's soccer team earned a split of two conference games over the weekend, helping put an end to a three-game skid before returning home for their next two matches. The Eagles (3-4 overall, 1-1 RRAC) dropped a 3-0 decision at Texas A&M-San Antonio on Thursday but rebounded to beat Our Lady of the Lake, 2-1, on Saturday.

 

A&M-San Antonio 3, Eagles 0

The Eagles were limited to just three shots on goal during Thursday's contest, while the Jaguars opened with a goal in the first half and tacked on two more in the second. TAMUT piled up seven yellow cards and was whistled for a total of 22 fouls in the contest. Seth Brown made six saves despite taking the loss.

Jacob Mendez made seven saves and Golden Eguaikhide (3) scored the game-winning goal to help TAMUT stop a three-game losing streak and notch their first conference win of the season. Diego Picano (3) opened the scoring in just the fifth minute off an assist from Christian Gomez (4) before OLLU tied the match in the 20th minute. Eguaikhide put away the deciding goal less than four minutes later, assisted by Jaret Rojas (4).

The Eagles are home this week to host Huston-Tillotson on Thursday (7:30 pm) and Houston-Victoria on Saturday (3:30 pm).
