No. 14 Central Takes First Two From Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas - The No. 14 Central Methodist baseball team earned a pair of victories in its season opener against Our Lady of the Lake Friday afternoon in San Antonio, Texas.

The Eagles earned a 4-1 victory in game one before just edging the Saints 5-4 in the second game.

Sophomore Jeremy Conforti got the scoring started for Central in the top of third of game one on an RBI double to left field that scored Robbie Merced. OLLU would tie the game up in the bottom half of the frame at 1-1.

The game remain deadlocked until the top of the seventh when CMU scored three runs. Senior Alan West hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield which scored Bobby Nichols for the go-ahead run, followed by a two-RBI single from Conforti to plate Merced and Joseph Weatherford

Sebastian Escobar got the start on the bump, tossing a complete game and giving up only one run on three hits. He also struck out five batters in the 4-1 win.

Merced finished the day batting three-for-three, falling a home run short of the cycle. Weatherford and Conforti each picked up two hits while Conforti tallied three RBI.

The Eagles plated the first four runs of game two in the top of the third inning. OLLU responded with three in the bottom half of the frame to trim CMU's lead to 4-3.

A sacrifice fly to right field by Weatherford in the top of the fourth scored Tommaso Giarola to push CMU's lead to 5-3. Despite the Saints adding a run in the fifth, Central would hold on for the one-run victory.

Marcus Pritchard earned the first win of his CMU career, throwing 3.1 innings while giving up two earned runs on eight hits. Justin Guzman tossed the next two innings while Alfred Ulloa closed the game out to earn the save.

Alan West and Logan Doody each picked up two hits in the win while Merced drove in two runners on a single in the third inning.

Central will close the series out with two more games against the Saints Saturday, Feb. 4 beginning at 12:00 p.m.
