LSUS Blanks Our Lady of the Lake, 8-0, to Open Conference Play

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The LSU Shreveport Pilots continued their dominant start to the season, shutting out Our Lady of the Lake University, 8-0, on Friday night in San Antonio. With the victory, LSUS improves to 12-0 overall and 1-0 in Red River Athletic Conference play.

Isaac Rohde (3-0) was nearly untouchable on the mound, tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out 12. Lex Meinderts closed out the final two frames, surrendering just one hit and adding four strikeouts to complete the combined shutout.

The game remained scoreless until the sixth inning, when the Pilots capitalized on a pair of wild pitches to bring home Ryan Davenport and Alex Swenda, giving LSUS a 2-0 lead. From there, the offense erupted, plating six more runs in the final two innings to secure the win.

Josh Gibson led the charge at the plate, finishing 3-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, including an RBI single in the seventh and an RBI triple in the eighth. Davenport added two hits, a run, and an RBI, while Carlos Vega contributed with a double, a run, and an RBI. Vantrel Reed and Diego Aragon also chipped in an RBI each.

OLLU (5-6, 0-1 RRAC) struggled offensively against the LSUS pitching duo, mustering just five hits. Carlos Gusman led the Saints with two hits, while Drew Saucedo, Jack Kalisky, and Gavin Machado each had one. Devin Benavides (2-2) took the loss, despite a strong outing, going six innings, allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out seven.

With the shutout victory, LSUS will look to keep the momentum rolling in the doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game two is set for noon and game three for 2:30 p.m.
