Eagle baseball avoids sweep at OLLU despite struggles on road

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Road woes continued for the Eagle baseball team as they dropped two of three in a conference series against Our Lady of the Lake over the weekend. A&M-Texarkana (10-13 overall, 7-5 RRAC) fell to just 2-8 on the road.

GAME 1: OLLU 4, Eagles 3

The Eagles outhit the Saints on Friday and never trailed until the final play of the game when the hosts hit a walk off double to win the game in the bottom of the ninth. Joe Digiacomo (0-2) was tagged with the loss after a solid seven-inning start from Collin Fenili.

Julian Macias went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI. Dakota Leopold had a pair of hits as well. Fenili scattered eight hits and surrendered three runs while striking out two.

GAME 2: OLLU 7, Eagles 0

Oscar Sanchez (1-3) threw a strong five innings but still took the loss despite allowing a single run, just four hits, and striking out five. But the Eagles managed just four hits and five baserunners, and struck out eight times.

OLLU tagged the Eagles for a single run in the second, then struck for six more in the sixth against Casey Nimmo, who allowed six hits and six runs in an inning of work.

GAME 3: Eagles 15, OLLU 11 (11 innings)

The Eagles avoided being swept, needing extra innings to end the weekend with a win over the Saints with a 19-hit effort. Kyle McMullen homered and was one of four Eagles to have three hits, along with Leopold, Pudge Carlisle and Marzavin Riles. Leopold drove in four runs and doubled three times. Carlisle doubled and singled.

Blake Taylor started for the Eagles and threw five innings, but the win was credited to Hunter Reid (1-0) who tossed 1.2 innings of relief work, striking out two and giving up just one hit.

The Eagles are on the road Tuesday (6 pm) and Wednesday (3 pm) to take on Lyon College in Batesville, Ark., before returning home Saturday for a doubleheader against 19th-ranked Science and Arts of Oklahoma.
