Pitching, hitting strong as Eagles claim series win over OLLU

The A&M-Texarkana baseball team swept a doubleheader Sunday against Our Lady of the Lake, lifting their record to 12-13 overall and 9-5 in conference play. The Eagles took the first game, 5-2, then won the second by a 7-4 count. The series finale is scheduled for Monday at noon.

GAME 1

Oscar Sanchez (3-3) tossed six strong innings and the Eagles supported him with early and late run support. Sanchez struck out seven while surrendering just five hits and two earned runs while throwing 92 pitches. Hunter Reid picked up the save with a scoreless, hitless seventh inning.

Reid singled home a run to open the scoring in the first and Dakota Leopold stole home in the same inning for a 2-0 lead. Julian Macias added an RBI in the fifth while Jarren Lewis and Shraedon Naeole-Starkey added run-scoring singles in the sixth.

GAME 2

Reid flexed his muscle in the second game, hitting a pair of two-run homers – his fifth and sixth of the season – during a 3-for-3 performance. Luke Hyzdu added two hits, including a solo homer in the sixth and a run-=scoring double in the eighth.

Dylan Cabral (4-4) earned the win with 5.1 innings with eight strikeouts, six hits and four earned runs. Marcus Tidwell threw 2.2 innings in relief without giving up a hit and struck out five.
