Day 2 - NAIA Indoor Track & Field Nationals
GAINESVILLE, Florida – The Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) men's and women's indoor track & team had another successful day at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships on Friday.
Freshman Malik White got the day started for the Saints in the men's 60m hurdle prelims. White turned in the fifth fastest time (7.96) to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
"Malik is the only freshman in the finals," said OLLU Head Coach Brett Charlton. Every time Malik has stepped on the track he continues to elevate. We are excited to see what he does in tomorrow's finals against the best competition in the NAIA."
Lawren Tanner set an indoor school record with a 5.68m mark in the long jump. That jump earned her an 11th place finish.
"Really proud of how Lawren competed," continued Charlton. "She hasn't jumped in over a month and to come into a Championship meet and jump at such a high level was huge for her heading into outdoors. She's only going to continue to improve throughout the season."
Julian Verastegui earned a 10th place finish in the men's 400m. Verastegui ran a 48.12, setting an indoor school record and missing the event finals by just two spots.
"Julian ran extremely competitive today," added Charlton. "He missed the finals by a tenth of a second. It was very competitive field today but it showed he is capable of running 46 seconds outdoors."
