Bio
MICQAUELLA LOPEZ, MS, LAT, ATC, joined the Athletic Training staff in August 2024.
Lopez joins other Assistant Athletic Trainers Emily Ramirez, Tara Alexander and Brandon Harrist in providing immediate assessment and treatment of injuries and ailments for 18 intercollegiate teams (baseball, volleyball, softball, cheer, dance, drumline, plus men's and women's basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, tennis and track and field). The staff implements rehabilitation, conditioning and injury prevention plans and maintains accurate medical documentation per privacy guidelines.
Lopez will primarily work with men's and women's basketball teams and the men's and women's tennis teams as their primary athletic trainer.
A South Texas native, Lopez graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science. After graduation, she pursued a Master of Science in Athletic Training at Texas State University. Prior to her graduation, Lopez interned with the football team at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She graduated with her Master of Science in Athletic Training from Texas State University in August of 2024.
While completing her coursework, during her first two semesters, Lopez served as a graduate research assistant for the Health and Human Performance Cardiovascular Physiology Lab, assisting with data collection and procedure execution on NIH-funded research under the direction of Dr. Stacy Hunter. Additionally, for the remainder of her graduate study, she served as a graduate teaching assistant within the Department of History, specializing in post-civil war American history.
As a graduate student, Lopez was awarded the Texas State Athletic Training scholarship, Academic Achievement award, T - Association award, and Texas State Scholar's Day 2024 Attendee Acclaimed Student Presenter for her presentation of "Diversity in Athletic Training Education: How Diversity Impacts Student Education and Experience, A Proposed Pilot Study." Lopez also served as a 2023-2024 Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association Student Senator chairwoman for the Ethnic Diversity and Inclusion Committee for the duration of her term.
