Saints Plate 15 Runs in Two Wins Versus UMHB

SAN ANTONIO (March 7, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team won both games against NCAA D3 the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (UMHB) on Tuesday. The Saints improve to 15-9 overall while the Crusaders drop to 1-8.

History

This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Game one

The Saints started the day strong with a 6-3 victory. The Crusaders scored an early run in the first inning but Francisco Martinez put the Saints ahead in the bottom of the second inning with a two-run home run. Caimyn Holiday doubled in the fifth inning that scored two runs and Jackson Kalisky also doubled to bring home two. The Crusaders put up two runs in the final inning, but the Saints held strong to win. Starting pitcher Ram Maldonado earned the win after going two innings with two strikeouts. Christopher Perez, Dominique Boggs, John B. Ortega II and Kalisky all pitched in relief.

Game two

The Saints offense dominated in the second contest. They scored six runs in the second inning and followed by plating three in the third. The pitching staff held the Crusaders to one run on three hits. OLLU totaled nine hits and Kalisky finished with two RBIs. Sebastian Ledezma scored three runs and added an RBI. Anthony Valle and Criztian Delgado both batted 2-for-3. Starting pitcher Donovan Gamez grabbed the win on the mound after going two innings with two strikeouts. Matthew Sanchez, Pablo Montante and Chase Dunn all saw relief appearances. The Saints have won four straight games heading into the weekend series against Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT).
