Saints Falter Late Against Texas Lutheran University

SEGUIN, TEXAS (March 14, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team lost 9-3 against NCAA D3 Texas Lutheran University (TLU) on Tuesday night. The Saints drop to 17-11 overall while the Bulldogs improve to 7-9.

Head Coach Matt Piker commented, "We made too many mistakes tonight. TLU is a good program, and you can't make that many mistakes against a team like them and hope to win. The loss ultimately falls on me."

The Saints were 2-2 against the Bulldogs prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints lost the lead late in the game by giving up seven runs in the eighth inning. The Saints scored the first run of the game in the third inning with Vincent Banda scoring on a wild pitch. Noah Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly in the sixth frame to score one run, and Jonathan LaCourse followed with a single to bring in Diego Zuniga. The Bulldogs started the comeback in the same inning by scoring on a wild pitch. They singled to cut the lead to one run in the seventh inning and took the lead in the following inning. They scored seven runs on six hits in the eighth inning to eventually win 9-3. LaCourse and Zuniga had the Saints only two hits. Devin Benavides pitched in relief and suffered the loss. The Saints used eight relief pitchers after Javier De Alejandro started on the mound with one inning of work.
