Baseball Scores 22 Runs in Sweep of Arlington Baptist

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 9, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team swept Arlington Baptist University (ABU) in a three-game series with matchups on Thursday and Friday. The Saints improve to 6-4 on the season while the Patriots drop to 0-3.

Game One

The Saints shutout the Patriots in the first game of the series on Thursday night. The game was scoreless until the fourth inning. Kobey Allison hit a triple to bring Aiden Gonzalez and later scored on a passed ball. The Saints grew the lead by adding four runs in the sixth inning. Nicholas Alonzo picked up an RBI on a double to right field to score Criztian Delgado. Brandon Betancourt and Caimyn Holiday stole home on separate plays as part of double steals. OLLU put up four runs again in the seventh inning to run-rule the Patriots 10-0 in a scheduled nine-inning game. The Saints finished with 13 hits and didn't commit an error. Devin Benavides pitched a one-hit complete game and earned the win with six strikeouts.

Game Two

OLLU started the Friday doubleheader with a 5-1 victory in the first matchup. The Saints scored two runs in the third inning with RBIs from Jack Kalisky and Diego Zuniga. Delgado scored a run in the fourth inning on a fielder's choice. The Patriots scored their only run of the series in the top of the sixth inning. Gonzalez and Delgado scored runs in the sixth inning and the Saints held on for the win. Noah De La Riva grabbed the win after pitching six innings with five strikeouts. Chase Dunn pitched the final inning with one strikeout.

Game Three

The Saints gathered nine hits in the series finale. They put up a big number in the second frame on four hits. Alonzo brought in Kalisky on a single, followed by a triple by Betancourt that scored three. Betancourt later scored on a balk in the five-run inning. Zuniga recorded two RBIs on a single that brought in Holiday and Betancourt in the fourth inning. Christian Perez earned the win by going five innings with five strikeouts. Austin Mitchell and Matthew Sanchez pitched in relief in OLLU's 7-0 victory.
