Baseball Scores 35 Runs in Sweep of Texas College

SAN ANTONIO (March 2, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team swept Texas College (TC) in a three-game series this weekend. The Saints improve to 12-9 overall and 6-3 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). OLLU is 11-5 this season while playing at home.

History

The Saints were 26-2 against the Steers prior to the series.

Game One

The Saints run-ruled the Steers in the first matchup of the three-game series last night. They scored eight runs in the first two innings with singles, walks and a double by D'Artagnan Perez-Padron. Texas College rallied for three runs in the third inning. They tallied a ground out RBI, single and a hit by pitch with bases loaded. The Saints scored three runs over the next two innings to increase the lead to 11-4. Criztian Delgado and Caimyn Holiday both had RBI singles. OLLU scored three runs in the seventh inning to end the game in a run-rule. A. Gonzalez marked an RBI double and Holiday later followed with a triple that scored two runs. The Saints won 14-4 backed by 15 hits. Devin Benavides started on the mound and went five innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Benavides leads the NAIA with five wins. Chase Dunn pitched two innings in relief and sat down four batters.

Game Two

OLLU shut out the Steers in the second game of the series. The Saints scored five runs in the second inning. Betancourt walked to drive in a run with bases loaded. Holiday followed with a grand slam over the left field fence. Holiday tripled in the fourth inning to score two runs to grow the lead to 7-0. Kalisky followed with a single to score Holiday. Kalisky scored on a balk later in the inning. Noah De La Riva earned the win on the mound after going 4.1 innings with three strikeouts. Roman Rodriguez pitched in relief for 2.2 innings with five strikeouts. The Saints won 9-0 with six hits.

Game Three

The Saints won 12-0 in game three to complete the series sweep. OLLU scored the first two runs in the first inning on a fielder's choice and an error. Nicholas Alonzo grounded out to bring in a run in the third inning and Anthony Valle scored on a wild pitch. The Saints added eight more runs in the fourth inning. Betancourt tallied an RBI on a ground out in the fifth inning. Gabriel Sandoval hit a two-RBI double to center field in the sixth inning and Kobey Allison singled to score Sandoval later in the frame. Esai Puente earned the win after going five innings with nine strikeouts. Kalisky pitched two innings in relief and had four strikeouts.
