Baseball Sweeps No. 21-Ranked Texas Wesleyan University in Doubleheader

SAN ANTONIO (March 5, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team swept No. 21-ranked Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) in a doubleheader today. The Saints improve to 14-9 on the season while the Rams drop to 13-8.

History

The Saints were 4-3 against the Rams prior to the series.

Game One

The Saints came back from 3-1 down to win the first game. The Rams opened the scoring in the first inning with one run. Jack Kalisky responded for the Saints with a solo home run in the bottom of the frame. TWU tallied two unearned runs in the second inning to grab the two-run advantage. Diego Zuniga and Kobey Allison both drove in runs in the third inning to tie the game. Zuniga hit a ground out RBI in the fifth inning to put the Saints up by one run. The score held as the Saints took the first game of the series. Roman Rodriguez started on the mound for the Saints and went two innings. Matthew Sanchez pitched one inning in relief, and Chase Dunn earned the win after going three innings. Kalisky tallied the save by not allowing a hit in the final inning.

Game Two

OLLU won the second game by an identical 4-3 score. The Rams took the first lead again by scoring three runs in the third inning. Similar to the first game, Kalisky scored the Saints first run on a home run. This at-bat was a two-run home run that scored D'Artagnan Perez-Padron. The Saints trailed by one run when the seventh inning comeback commenced. Betancourt bunted to score Caimyn Holiday from third base and Betancourt reached first base safely. The Saints had bases loaded later in the inning and a wild pitch allowed Allison to score from third base to win the game. Ethan Garza pitched the first three innings with two strikeouts and three earned runs. Hector Rogerio III pitched the final four innings and earned the win with three strikeouts.
