Baseball Grabs One of Three Against Louisiana Christian University

SAN ANTONIO (March 23, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team lost a three-game series against Louisiana Christian University (LCU) this weekend. The Saints took the series finale after dropping the first two games. The Saints move to 15-17 overall and 7-11 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Wildcats are now 22-6 overall and 12-3 in the RRAC.

History

The Saints were 3-3 against the Wildcats prior to the series.

Game One

The Wildcats offense put up 15 runs on 17 hits in game one. The Saints totaled nine hits but scored only four runs. LCU recorded the first three runs of the game in the first inning. Nicholas Alonzo hit a sacrifice fly in the following inning to cut the deficit to two runs. The Wildcats put up two runs over the next two innings to lead by four. Jack Kalisky hit a two-run home run that brought home Jimmy Valle in the fifth inning. The Wildcats extended the lead to 12 runs to earn the game one victory. Devin Benavides suffered the loss after going 4.2 innings with four earned runs. Hector Rogerio III, Chase Dunn, Matthew Sanchez, Johnmichael Martinez and Chris Rodriguez pitched relief. Sanchez struck out four batters in 2.1 innings on the mound.

Game Two

The Saints lost by two runs in a seven-inning contest. The Wildcats put up seven runs in the first seven innings, which included four that were unearned. The Saints trailed 7-0 heading into the bottom of the seventh inning. OLLU rallied for five runs, including two walks that scored runs and a single by D'Artagnan Perez Padron. Vincent Banda reached first on an error that scored Kalisky. Criztian Delgado pinch hit for Brandon Betancourt and struck out with runners on second and third to end the game. Noah De La Riva was credited with the loss after going six innings with two strikeouts and three earned runs.

Game Three

The Saints salvaged the series by winning the third game. The Wildcats led 2-0 after four innings. OLLU put up three runs in the fifth inning. Betancourt scored after Kalisky reached on a fielder's choice. Diego Zuniga singled to score Caimyn Holiday, and Valle also singled to score Kalisky. OLLU's lead held and they won 3-2 in the seven-inning game. Esai Puente earned the win after going 5.1 innings with five strikeouts. Dunn pitched for 0.2 innings and Donovan Gamez grabbed the save with five strikeouts in three innings. Gamez allowed only one hit in the final three frames.
