Baseball Grabs Conference Series Win Over Jarvis

SAN ANTONIO (March 30, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball squad took two of three games against Jarvis Christian University (JCU) this weekend. The Saints improve to 17-19 overall and 9-12 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Bulldogs drop to 14-13 overall and 11-9 in the RRAC.

History

The Saints were 16-14 against the Bulldogs prior to the series.

Game One

The Saints won the first contest against JCU yesterday. OLLU opened the scoring in the second inning when Criztian Delgado tripled to score Nicholas Alonzo. Brandon Betancourt followed with a sacrifice fly that brought home Delgado. The Bulldogs cut OLLU's lead to one run in the fifth inning with a ground out RBI. The Saints responded immediately in the bottom of the frame. Vincent Banda singled to center field to score D'Artagnan Perez-Padron. JCU scored one run in the eighth inning off a sacrifice fly. The Saints led 3-2 heading into the ninth inning. Jack Kalisky took the mound for the final frame and didn't allow a hit to earn the save. Devin Benavides pitched eight innings with five strikeouts to tally the win. Benavides is now 6-3 on the season with a 2.56 ERA.

Game Two

Alejandro Gonzalez Moreno pitched a solid game for the Bulldogs in game two. He pitched all seven innings with five strikeouts while allowing only three hits. Esai Puente suffered the loss on the mound for the Saints after going 1.2 innings with two earned runs. Chase Dunn pitched the remaining 5.1 innings with three strikeouts and one earned run. JCU won 4-0 with five hits. Perez-Padron, Banda and Betancourt were responsible for the Saints three hits.

Game Three

The Saints bounced back in game three. They scored two runs in the third inning on singles by Perez-Padron and Banda. Delgado increased the lead to three runs in the sixth inning when he singled to score Kalisky. Kalisky and Diego Zuniga both singled in the seventh inning to push the advantage to 7-0. The score held and OLLU grabbed the series win with a 7-0 victory in game three. Noah De La Riva earned the win after pitching five innings with five strikeouts. De La Riva allowed only two hits. Donovan Gamez and Kalisky pitched four innings total in relief and didn't allow a hit.
