Baseball Wins Nonconference Series Over Ottawa

SAN ANTONIO (April 6, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) baseball team took two of three games against Ottawa University (OU) this weekend. The Saints improve to 20-20 on the season while the Braves drop to 21-18.

History

The Saints won the only previous meeting against Ottawa in 2023.

Game One

The Saints took the first game against Ottawa University 3-2. The Braves scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning, but the Saints responded in the following frame. D'Artagnan Perez-Padron singled to left field that scored Caimyn Holiday, cutting the deficit to one run. Vincent Banda tied the game in the fifth inning on an infield single that scored Alejandro Rodriguez. The score remained tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning. Kobey Allison and Rodriguez were the first two outs of the inning. Holiday was next in the order and stayed disciplined at the plate to draw a walk. Perez-Padron hit a double to deep left field that allowed Holiday to come all the way home, and the Saints won 3-2 in walk-off fashion. Devin Benavides started on the mound and pitched four innings in a no decision. Ethan Garza pitched the fifth inning and didn't allow a hit. Chase Dunn earned the win after pitching the last four innings with four strikeouts.

Game Two

The Saints struggled in game two. They allowed eight runs on 14 hits. Esai Puente took the loss after going 2.1 innings with three earned runs. Roman Rodriguez, Matthew Sanchez and Hector Rogerio III pitched in relief. Jack Kalisky had the lone multi-base hit with a double. Banda and Nicholas Alonzo had the other two hits. The Braves won 8-0 to force a rubber game in the third contest.

Game Three

OLLU won the last game of the series 6-1. Alonzo opened the scoring in the fourth inning on an infield single that scored Kalisky. The Saints added three more runs in the fifth inning. Banda reached on a fielder's choice that brought in one run. Delgado singled to score btoh Banda and Perez-Padron to push the lead to 4-0. Holiday and Kalisky both recorded RBIs in the eighth inning. The Braves scored their only run in the ninth inning. Noah De La Riva earned the win after going seven innings with four strikeouts. Donovan Gamez pitched two innings in relief.
