SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) baseball team closed out its weekend series with Indiana University South Bend (IUSB) on Saturday afternoon. After dropping the first game, the Saints clinched the series with a dominant 11-2 performance in the finale.
NOTABLE
- The Saints recorded a season-high 14 hits in the series finale which included five players with multi-hit performance.
- Noah De La Riva earned the win in game four, tossing six innings allowing two runs on eight hits.
- Drew Saucedo finished the day going 4-for-5 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored.
- Saints' pitchers recorded 13 strikeouts on the day, bringing their series total to 37 over four games.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first game of the day, the Titans plated a run in the top of the first to take the early 1-0 lead. Drew Saucedo led the home half off with a hit by pitch and would steal second to move into scoring position. Carlos Gusman delivered a two-out single up the middle, scoring Saucedo to even the game at one.
- The Titans pulled ahead in the sixth with a two-run homerun.
- Gavin Machado collected his second triple of the weekend in the bottom of the sixth. Christian Martinez came on to run for Machado and would score on a sacrifice fly from Brett Atkinson to make it a 3-2 game heading into the final inning.
- OLLU got the tying run into scoring position after Martinez singled and moved up on a sacrifice bunt from Saucedo. A 6-4-3 double play ended the game.
- In the series finale, Vincent Banda started a two-out rally with a single up the middle. A walk by Alex Rodriguez put runners at first and second. Ben Hovda put the Saints on the scoreboard with an RBI single to score Banda.
- IU South Bend evened the game at one in the fifth, scoring on a wild pitch.
- The Saints blew the game open in the bottom of the fifth, scoring seven runs on eight hits in the inning.
- OLLU added two more runs in the sixth inning.
- Kalisky came on in the seventh and would pitch around two walks to end the game.
UP NEXT
OLLU will make the short trip over to St. Mary's University on Tuesday for single contest with the Rattlers. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m.
The Saints will open Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play next weekend as they welcome LSU Shreveport to Missions Baseball Academy. First pitch of the three-game series is set for Friday night at 6:00 p.m.
