Saints Cheer Takes Fifth Place at NCA Nationals

Daytona Beach, Fla. (April 12, 2023) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) competitive cheer team finished in fifth place at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College National Championship from April 6-8.

Head Coach Crystal Brock said, "This year was exactly what we needed to build toward the legacy we are trying to create for OLLU Spirit. Each time our athletes hit the mat, we learned so much about our teams' strengths and weakness. We have become better athletes for the critiques and missed opportunities we have had to encompass over the past few years living in a pandemic. Cheer is a contact sport and comes with much respect as these athletes are engaging in intense scoresheet requirements to make placement on the medal stand. Each person on the team is vital to our success. We are not able to build a pyramid missing one teammate, every person is important, and each athlete has to buy into this to see the bigger picture. We have learned many lessons this season and will use them to be more prepared for next year. Big shout out to our newest addition to our team this season, Assistant Coach Gonzalez. Gonzalez has brought so much to our program and is the muscle we need to plan for next year. It's a blessing having a partner in this game and someone who truly understands the vision and purpose."

The Saints competed in the Intermediate All Girl NAIA section. They had a raw score of 75.83, 16.5 deductions, a performance score of 67.75 and event score of 16.93.
