OLLU Spirit Honors Senior Ginobili Cobarrubias

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 27, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) volleyball match against Texas College on Saturday was a momentous occasion, as the OLLU Spirit Team honored its senior Ginobili Cobarrubias.

Cobarrubias was escorted by his mother, Vanessa Rodriguez, his father, Domingo Rodriguez, and his sister, Trinity Rodriguez.

Head Coach Crystal Brock commented, "Ginobili embodies the true OLLU Spirit. As the first signee for the inaugural drumline in 2022 and the first competitive male cheerleader in 2023, he has made his mark in OLLU  and OLLU athletics history. He is the first male spirit athlete to graduate from our program. He's been an exceptional role model for our department and community. Many Saints' fans know Gino and look up to him and his talents and guidance. He makes his family and team proud in all that he does. I wish him the best. He has a bright future, and I am grateful I was able to be a small part of his journey. Gino has set the bar for all future Spirit athletes, and I look forward to seeing him on the wall of fame in the future.

Cobarrubias has been part of the OLLU Spirit Team since 2022. He is a native of San Antonio, where he graduated from Jefferson High School. He is majoring in Criminal Justice and Political Science. Cobarrubias was part of the inaugural drumline team, which was launched in 2022 with Head Coach Crystal Brock at the helm. Drumline became part of the entire Spirit Team, which included Competitive Cheer and Competitive Dance.

In his first year, Cobarrubias earned Scholar-Athlete recognition, and Spirit awarded him the Standout Athlete of the Year and Team Captain of Drumline. Last year, he also joined the Competitive Cheer program, and the team earned NAIA Scholar Team honors. He once again received Scholar-Athlete recognition and repeated as Standout Athlete of the Year and Team Captain.

He is in his second year with the Competitive Cheer team and third year with Drumline. As Cobarrubias prepares to finish out his collegiate career as captain of the Competitive Cheer team, he looks forward to the continued support of the OLLU community
