Cheer Earns Highest NAIA Score in Program History at Thresher Invitational
NORTH NEWTON, Kansas – The Our Lady of the Lake (OLLU) competitive cheer squad opened their season this weekend at the Thresher Invitational hosted by Bethel College.
The Saints competed against eight other teams on Friday and six others on Saturday during the two-day competition.
On the opening day, OLLU earned a score of 58.53 good for fifth place. St. Ambrose University out of Iowa earned the top spot during day one of competition.
During the final day of competition, OLLU Cheer turned in one of their best performances in program history, earning a score of 67.00 and a fourth-place finish. St. Ambrose remained in first place during day two of the competition.
"Saints Cheer had a phenomenal day," said Head Coach Crytal Brock. "We earned the highest NAIA score in OLLU history and took away great feedback from judges and spectators, the legacy continues. We took to the mat all the critiques and made the changes we need to "hit zero" and take-home fourth place. This is the highest placement as a cheer squad we have received at an NAIA competition to date. The hard work is paying off and the dedication is showing. We are so proud of our athletes. We are excited to get back on the gym and start preparing for our next competition in two weeks."
