Arnie Martinez was born and raised in San Antonio. He graduated from Holy Cross High School and attended Schreiner University, where he individually qualified for the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Championship in 2007. Martinez also attended Our Lady of the Lake University, where he was part of their Inaugural golf team. He was a standout collegiate player for the Saints from 2008 to 2010.
Martinez joined the OLLU golf coaching staff during the 2013-2014 season as the assistant coach. In 2019, he took over as head coach for the Saints. While on staff, the Saints have won five Red River Athletic Conference/Association of Independent Institutions Championships and three National Championship berths. This past season, he guided Kane Ybarra to a NAIA National Championship 10th place finish. The team was the runner-up for the conference.
Martinez oversees all facets of the program from recruiting to practices, tournament strategy, implementing and overseeing physical conditioning and course management.
Martinez is a certified associate in the PGA program, where he hopes to gain his Class A certification in teaching and management.
In 2013, he won the Greater San Antonio Men’s City Championship and was selected to play on the prestigious Rudy’s I35 Cup representing San Antonio. In 2017, he qualified into Sectionals for the U.S. Open. Martinez still plays professionally on and off tours and in PGA Qualifiers.
