OLLU Men's Basketball Races Past OPSU 112-94

GOODWELL, OKLA. (Nov. 11, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team defeated Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) 112-94 on Friday. The Saints improve to 2-1 while the Aggies drop to 0-4.

Head Coach Chris Dial said, "We were sloppy defensively, but shot three-pointers well enough to win. OPSU is not an easy place to play, so it's nice to get another early season road win. We will continue to focus on things we need to improve on and prepare for a tough Wayland Baptist team tomorrow."

History

The Saints were 0-1 against the Aggies prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints offense shined on Friday night against the Aggies. OLLU shot 70 percent from the three-point line in the first half and 57.1 percent from the field. Ruben Monzon scored 17 points and was two rebounds shy of a first half double-double. The Saints limited the Aggies to 12.5 percent three-point shooting in the first frame.

Both teams scored at will in the second half. The Saints totaled 62 points and forced seven turnovers. OPSU had 60 points behind an improved 55.6 percent three-point shooting. The Saints had seven offensive rebounds and held the Aggies to four in the second half. OLLU finished with triple-digit points for the second straight game.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Monzon led the Saints with 23 points. He also tallied a team-high 10 rebounds for a double-double. Ellis Jones and Georges Darwiche led the Saints with three assists each.

Rayquan Elliott led OPSU with 51 points. Justin Pile grabbed nine rebounds for the Aggies. Thomas Tucker led the team with two assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 43-of-69 shooting for 62.3 percent, 13-of-20 from three-point range for 65 percent and 13-of-20 from the free-throw line for 65 percent. OPSU shot 29-of-54 for 53.7 percent, 6-of-17 three pointers for 35.3 percent and 6-of-17 from the free-throw line for 35.3 percent.

The Saints grabbed 32 rebounds while OPSU collected 21. OLLU forced 16 turnovers and committed 17.
