OLLU Men's Basketball Downs DCC 106-80

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 29, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team defeated Dallas Christian College (DCC) 106-80 on Tuesday night. The Saints improve to 3-2 overall while the Crusaders drop to 1-9.

History

This was the first meeting between the two programs.

Basics

The Saints totaled triple-digit scoring in a victory over DCC in the first home game of the season. The Saints shot 50 percent from three-point range and 58.8 percent from the field in the first half. They forced eight turnovers and grabbed six offensive rebounds. Ellis Jones and Oscar Maldonado had double-digit scoring in the first half alone.

OLLU's impressive offensive performance extended into the second half. They totaled 18 buckets and 13 assists. The Crusaders shot 46.9 percent from the field but were unable to keep up with OLLU's scoring. The Saints finished with triple-digit points for the third time this season and will begin Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play on Thursday.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Jones led the Saints with 14 points. Angel Kankolongo had a team-high seven rebounds. Georges Darwiche led OLLU with five assists.

TJ Tilly Hobson led DCC with 20 points. Jalen Perez grabbed six rebounds for the Crusaders. Perez also led the team with three assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 38-of-70 shooting for 54.3 percent, 13-of-31 from three-point range for 41.9 percent and 17-of-21 from the free-throw line for 81 percent. DCC shot 27-of-59 for 45.8 percent, 8-of-23 three pointers for 34.8 percent and 18-of-27 from the free-throw line for 66.7 percent.

The Saints grabbed 37 rebounds while DCC collected 28. OLLU forced 17 turnovers and committed 13.
