Saints Handle North American University 99-80

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 1, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team downed North American University (NAU) 99-80 on Sunday. The Saints jump to 8-6 overall while the Stallions drop to 0-10.

History

The Saints won the only previous meeting against the Stallions last season.

Basics

The Saints offense shined on Sunday against the Stallions. They totaled 44 points in the first half by shooting 59.3 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from three-point range. OLLU also had 16 rebounds and five steals. The Saints took a nine-point lead heading into halftime.

OLLU's aggressive play continued to pay off in the second half. The Saints had six different players finish with double digit points. They shot over 50 percent again and forced eight turnovers in the second frame. The Saints have won four of their previous five contests and revamp Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) competition on Thursday.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Rob Gil led the Saints with 23 points. Ruben Monzon grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds and added 19 points for a double-double. Monzon also led the team with five assists.

Drew McCammon led North American with 25 points. Jalon Clark grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. CJ Miller finished with five assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 35-of-60 shooting for 58.3 percent, 12-of-22 from three-point range for 54.5 percent and 17-of-21 from the free-throw line for 81 percent. NAU shot 27-of-60 for 45 percent, 8-of-17 three pointers for 47.1 percent and 18-of-27 from the free-throw line for 66.7 percent.

The Saints grabbed 34 rebounds while North American collected 23. OLLU forced 20 turnovers and committed 19.
