SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 26, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team rallied past Texas College (TC) 82-75 on Thursday night. The Saints jump to 12-9 overall and 7-6 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Steers fall to 8-11 overall and 4-9 in RRAC competition.
History
The Saints were 16-8 against the Steers prior to the game.
Basics
The Saints outlasted the Steers on Thursday. Both teams shot well in the first half with the Saints outscoring Texas College by four points. OLLU shot 60.9 percent from the field in the first frame and Tommie Law and Rob Gil had double-digit points. Qyrique Dabon had 14 points for the Steers and added four rebounds. The Saints limited the Steers to only five free throws.
The second half had impressive shooting from both teams yet again. The Saints never trailed in the second half and hit key shots with under two minutes remaining. OLLU won 82-75 to build on their impressive home record of 7-2. Three Saints players finished with double-digit points.
Offensive/defensive standouts
Law led the Saints with 20 points. Gil grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Gil and Ruben Monzon led the team with two assists each.
Diego Gray led Texas College with 17 points. Dabon grabbed a team-high five rebounds. Jayven Humphrey finished with three assists.
Inside the box
OLLU combined for 27-of-50 shooting for 54 percent, 5-of-13 from three-point range for 38.5 percent and 23-of-28 from the free-throw line for 82.1 percent. TC shot 29-of-57 for 50.9 percent, 12-of-28 three pointers for 42.9 percent and 5-of-9 from the free-throw line for 55.6 percent.
The Saints grabbed 30 rebounds while Texas College collected 21.
