Saints Outpaced by HTU 89-78

AUSTIN, TEXAS (Feb. 15, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team were outplayed by Huston-Tillotson University (HTU) 89-78 on Tuesday night. The Saints fall to 13-14 overall and 8-11 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Rams jump to 8-19 overall and 6-12 in RRAC play.

Head Coach Chris Dial commented, "We didn't deserve to win tonight. I give credit to Huston-Tillotson University because they simply wanted it more than we did. We got beat to loose balls and refused to guard in every way. It was a disappointing effort."

History

The Saints were 20-3 against the Rams prior to the game.

Basics

The first half was closely played between both teams. Both squads shot over 40 percent from the field and the Saints missed only one free throw. The Rams took a four-point lead into halftime after forcing 13 turnovers and collecting eight offensive rebounds. Tommie Law totaled seven rebounds in the first half.

The Saints led once early in the second half, but the Rams were able to pull away. They led by as many as 15 points in the second half and finished with an 89-78 victory. Turnovers hurt the Saints again in the second half. OLLU shot only 53.8 percent from the free-throw line while the Rams converted the same amount of shots from the field.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Law and Sacade Kasamba led the Saints with 12 points each. Law grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Rob Gil had four assists.

Braxton Lovings and Jimmie Kelly led HTU with 25 points apiece. Charles Hallmon grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Three different Rams players finished with four assists each.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 28-of-56 shooting for 50 percent, 7-of-22 from three-point range for 31.8 percent and 15-of-22 from the free-throw line for 68.2 percent. HTU shot 31-of-65 for 47.7 percent, 11-of-28 three pointers for 39.3 percent and 16-of-27 from the free-throw line for 59.3 percent.

The Saints grabbed 39 rebounds while the Rams collected 34.
