Men's Basketball Handles Texas Wesleyan 79-72

SAN ANTONIO (Nov. 18, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team won its third straight game after defeating Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) 79-72 on Saturday. The Saints improve to 3-3 while the Rams drop to 1-3.

History

The Saints were 7-6 against the Rams prior to the game.

Basics

The Saints hit on all cylinders in the first half. OLLU pulled away late in the frame and led by 15 points at the break. They also denied two three-point attempts by the Rams with under 30 seconds left. OLLU shot 55.2 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. Trey Law had 13 points at the half and OLLU hit 6-of-8 free throws.

The Rams came within eight points late in the second half, but the Saints were able to weather the storm and hit key free throws after TWU was forced to foul. The difference in the second half was 10 turnovers by the Rams, which ultimately led to breakaway points for the Saints. The Saints finished with 11 second chance points and 32 points in the paint. Law, Rob Gil and Daniel Helterhoff tallied double digit points.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Law led the Saints with 21 points. Law also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Gil and Kyonte Holder had two assists each.

Adetokunbo Bakare led TWU with 22 points. Richard Amaefule grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Four players had two assists each for the Rams.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 29-of-62 shooting for 46.8 percent, 8-of-21 from three-point range for 38.1 percent and 13-of-18 from the free-throw line for 72.2 percent. TWU shot 25-of-62 for 40.3 percent, 6-of-20 three pointers for 30 percent and 16-of-21 from the free-throw line for 76.2 percent.

The Saints grabbed 30 rebounds while TWU collected 36.
