Men's Basketball Triumphs Over Paul Quinn 89-76

DALLAS (Jan. 11, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team won a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) game over Paul Quinn College (PQC) 89-76 on Thursday. The Saints improve to 7-7 overall and 4-4 in conference. The Tigers drop to 2-8 overall and 2-6 in the RRAC.

Head Coach Chris Dial said, "It was a sloppy game overall, but our guys showed some resiliency and got it done. Road wins are hard to come by in this conference, so I was proud that we were locked in enough to get the victory. We are looking forward to what will be a tough game against the University of the Southwest on Saturday."

History

The Saints were 21-3 against the Tigers prior to the game.

Basics

OLLU's offense overpowered the Tigers on Thursday night. The Saints totaled 44 points in the first half and led by 11 at halftime. The Tigers narrowed the gap in the second half, but the halftime deficit was too large to overcome. The Saints had 50 points in the paint and shot 90.9 percent from the free-throw line. Breion Powell finished with four steals while five Saints players had double-digit scoring.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Lonzo Rand, Trey Law and Daniel Helterhoff led the Saints with 16 points apiece. Helterhoff also grabbed eight rebounds for OLLU. Gil tallied six assists.

Norris Williams led PQC with 24 points. John Harrison grabbed six rebounds. Williams led the team with eight assists.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 32-of-51 shooting for 62.7 percent, 5-of-14 from three-point range for 35.7 percent and 20-of-22 from the free-throw line for 90.9 percent. PQC shot 30-of-63 for 47.6 percent, 7-of-23 three pointers for 30.4 percent and 9-of-15 from the free-throw line for 60 percent.

The Saints grabbed 37 rebounds while PQC collected 18. The Saints forced 18 turnovers and committed 23.
