Saints Men Win Fourth Straight in Victory Over LCU

SAN ANTONIO (Feb. 17, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's basketball team limited Louisiana Christian University (LCU) to 60 points in a 26-point win on Saturday. The Saints jump to 13-12 overall and 10-9 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Wildcats drop to 5-19 overall and 3-15 in conference. The Saints have won four straight games.

History

The Saints were 1-3 against the Wildcats prior to the matchup.

Basics

The Saints' offense exploded in the first half. They totaled 51 points on 62.5 percent shooting from the field. They forced 10 turnovers by the Wildcats and Breion Powell had 10 points. Trey Law, Daniel Helterhoff and Paul Minjoth grabbed four rebounds apiece in the frame. OLLU's defense also limited the Wildcats to 0-of-13 shooting from three-point range. The Saints took a 31-point advantage into halftime.

The Wildcats had 40 points in the second half, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The Saints had three players finish with double-digit scoring. Rob Gil had seven assists and the Saints took 29 free throws. OLLU is now 5-1 this month with three games remaining in the regular season conference schedule.

Offensive/defensive standouts

Law and Powell led the Saints with 14 points apiece. Three Saints players grabbed a team-high five rebounds each. Gil led OLLU with seven assists.

Drew Tebbe led LCU with 14 points. Ederick Coleman grabbed a team-high six rebounds. D'Marcus Fugett had four assists for the Wildcats.

Inside the box

OLLU combined for 32-of-62 shooting for 51.6 percent, 6-of-20 from three-point range for 30 percent and 16-of-29 from the free-throw line for 55.2 percent. LCU shot 22-of-60 for 36.7 percent, 7-of-26 three pointers for 26.9 percent and 9-of-11 from the free-throw line for 81.8 percent.

The Saints grabbed 40 rebounds while LCU collected 32. OLLU forced 16 turnovers and committed 14.
