OLLU Men's Soccer Suffers 3-1 Loss to LSUS

SHREVEPORT, LA. (Sept. 22, 2022) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team lost to LSU-Shreveport (LSUS) 3-1 on Thursday. The Saints are now 0-5-1 overall and open Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play with an 0-1 record. The Pilots improve to 4-3-1 overall and 1-0 in conference.

Head Coach Arthur Salazar said, "Not much went right for us today against a strong LSUS team unfortunately. We need to try and regroup and find a way to get a win in order to establish some momentum."

Basics

The Saints were defeated by LSUS to start conference competition on Thursday afternoon. The Pilots opened the scoring in the 19th minute with a strike from Alex Golder. The Saints responded quickly at the 25-minute mark with a goal from Randy Dominguez. Niek De Jong gave the Pilots the advantage heading into halftime by scoring with under one minute remaining in the half. The Saints were outmatched in the first half as LSUS took 11 shots compared to OLLU's three.

Joseph Baker totaled 10 saves in the match, but the Saints were unable to climb back from the halftime deficit. De Jong scored again for the Pilots in the 51st minute to increase the lead to 3-1. The Pilots totaled 24 shots with 11 on goal. There were seven yellow cards shown throughout the match.
