Men’s Soccer Loses Battle with Generals

By Eric Speelman

ALEXANDRIA, LA. (Oct. 19, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team lost its conference match against LSU-Alexandria (LSUA) on Thursday by a score of 2-1. The Saints fall to 4-8-1 on the year and 4-5-1 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), while the Generals improve to 7-5-1 and 6-2-1 in conference play.

History

The Saints were 2-7-4 against the Generals prior to the match.

Basics

The Saints jumped out to an early lead, with Samuel Villegas scoring in the ninth minute. The Generals, despite putting up a high number of shots, were unable to find the net until the 76th minute, when Adam Sherwood tied the match at 1-1. Manuel Concetti would score the game-winning goal with 2:14 left.

"Defensively, we were doing what we needed to do and were not giving away good chances to our opponent," Head Coach Shane Hurley said. "We were unsuccessful at adapting to close out the result. The players have worked hard and improved dramatically, but we missed a one-on-one chance only to concede in a similar situation moments later."
