Men’s Soccer Draws Against LCU

By Eric Speelman

PINEVILLE, LA. (Oct. 21, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team tied the Louisiana Christian University (LCU) Wildcats 1-1 in a conference match on Saturday. The Saints move to 4-8-2 and 4-5-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC), while the Wildcats move to 9-3-3 and 8-1-2 in conference play.

History

The Saints were 1-1 against the Wildcats prior to the match.

Basics

The Saints and Wildcats would combine for 12 shots in the first half, but neither side would find the back of the net before half time. Cade Ryan scored to break the deadlock five minutes into the second half. Despite a flurry of shots from the Wildcats, the Saints held the lead until LCU's Sergio Pita Martin converted a penalty kick in the final five minutes to tie the match.

"The fellas made a tremendous team effort to lead 1-0 into the 86th minute of the game," Head Coach Shane Hurley said. "In the end, the team left it all on the field, and we will have to build off the draw. With six seconds in the game, we had an excellent chance to hit a winner, but it just wasn't to be today."
