Men's Soccer Surges for Seven Goals Against Huston-Tillotson

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS (Oct. 30, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team finished the 2023 season with a 7-1 victory against Huston-Tillotson University (HTU). The Saints complete the season with a 5-8-3 overall record and 5-5-3 mark in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Rams drop to 3-11-1 overall and 2-10-1 in the RRAC.

Head Coach Shane Hurley commented, "I'm proud of the effort made by the team to work box to box for each other. We capitalized on our opportunities today and maintained consistency in our efforts and energy. We must now focus upon individual and collective improvements that can be made through the offseason and pay dividends next year."

Basics

The Saints' offense shined in the win over the Rams on Monday. Nicolas Murgas and Samuel Villegas both scored in the opening 15 minutes. The Rams tacked on a goal seven minutes before halftime to cut the Saints lead to one goal. OLLU went into halftime up by one goal despite being outshot by the Rams.

OLLU ran away with the match in the second half. Cade Ryan, Adrian Maldonado, Harry Acklam, Villegas and Nikola Saltchev all scored in the frame. Stephen Volpe finished with two assists and OLLU had 12 shots in the second half. Dominic Pena made seven saves in net to earn the win.
