Men's Soccer Dropped by UIW 4-0

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 13, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team lost on Friday night against NCAA D1 the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) 4-0. The Saints fall to 1-4 while the Cardinals improve to 2-2-1. 

The Saints were 0-3 against the Cardinals prior to the game. 

The Saints struggled in the first half by not recording any shots. The Cardinals scored the opening goal in the third minute from Miles Merritt with an assist from Emmanuel Martinez. Peleg Armendariz put UIW up 2-0 at the 13th minute with an unassisted goal. The Cardinals totaled nine shots on goal in the frame and Dominic Pena made seven saves. The Saints had one corner kick compared to UIW's four. The Cardinals scored their third goal at the 50th minute by Diego Robles. Erik Rios gave the Cardinals the 4-0 victory with a goal in the last minute. OLLU finished with one shot on goal. The Cardinals totaled 23 shots with 19 on goal. Pena ended the contest with 15 saves, which sets the OLLU record for most saves in a single game. 

Alejandro De La Torre picked up the win in net for the Cardinals with one save. 

Baden Arrieta had the lone shot on goal for the Saints. Seven different Saints players competed for the full 90 minutes.
