Men's Soccer Uses Strong Second Half to Defeat Texas College

SAN ANTONIO (Sept. 26, 2024) - The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team ended a six-game skid with a 3-1 victory over Texas College (TC) on Thursday. The Saints improve to 2-6 overall and 1-2 in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC). The Steers are now 2-4 overall and 0-3 in conference.

OLLU's offense got a quick start with a goal just six minutes into the contest. Thiago Fernandes scored an unassisted goal for an early 1-0 lead. The Saints had five corner kicks in the first half but were unable to score another goal. OLLU's defense also played well by not allowing any goals by the Steers. Andres Rocha put a header just wide before the whistle blew for halftime. 

The Steers scored the equalizing goal at the 52nd minute. The Saints took a corner kick and had shots on goal in the following minutes. They were rewarded with a goal by Tim Talabi at the 67th minute. His header was assisted by Alessandro Sierra. Rocha extended OLLU's advantage to 3-1 at the 78th mark. The score held and the Saints picked up their first conference win of the season. Two yellow cards were shown to the Steers throughout the match.

Dominic Pena earned the win in net for the Saints with three saves. He is now 2-5 on the season. The Saints had 24 shots while allowing nine. OLLU took eight corner kicks. The Steers were forced to make 14 saves and committed 19 fouls. Rocha finished with six shots while Fernandes had five. Sierra put four shots on goal and Cade Ryan had four total shots.
