Men's Soccer Falls Short in 2-1 Loss to Louisiana Christian

SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 26, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's soccer team lost a close game against Louisiana Christian University (LCU) 2-1 on Saturday. The Saints are now 4-11-1 overall and 3-7-1 in conference. The Wildcats jump to 11-3-2 overall and 8-2-1 in conference. 

History

The Saints were 1-1-1 against the Wildcats prior to the game. 

Game recap

The first shot of the game was a goal by LCU. Pedro Sao Tigao scored an unassisted goal at the 12th minute. The teams traded shots in the next 10 minutes with LCU receiving a yellow card as well. The rest of the half was scoreless but the Saints put up three shots on offense. Dominic Pena made a key stop in net with 35 seconds left in the half. The Wildcats took a 1-0 lead to the break. 

The Wildcats scored again early in the second half. Sergio Pita Martin put them up 2-0 at the 52nd minute. There were eight combined fouls and only a few shots before the Saints scored at the 70th minute. Harry Acklam scored with a shot to the bottom right of the net to put OLLU within one. The Saints continued to pressure with headers and shots on goal but were unable to score again. There were two yellow cards shown in the final minute and the Wildcats won 2-1. Andres Rocha finished with two shots on goal and Pena made 10 saves.

The Saints play at the University of Houston-Victoria on Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m.
