Zarate, Taylor and Heung All Finish in 18th Place at NAIA Indoor Nationals

COLUMBUS, GA. (March 4, 2023) – For the first time in Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) history, three men qualified and participated in the NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championship.

Jose Zarate ran the 5000m on Thursday with a time of 15:13.73. He finished in 18th place out of a slate of 34 runners from throughout the country.

Tr'Darius Taylor ran the 60m on Friday with a time of 6.84 – a personal record for him. He finished in 18th place out of a slate of 39.

Ian Lee Heung participated in the triple jump on Saturday with a mark of 14.23m. He came in 18th out of a group 31.

Head Coach Patrick Torres commented, "We had some awesome things happen at nationals this year. This is the most men at one time OLLU has sent to the national meet. Tr'Darius was the fastest freshman in the 60 m. Ian was consistent on the board and Jose fought hard at a distance that's relatively new to him. I'm proud of the way these young men represented the Lake and excited for the transition to outdoor."
