Bio

Henry Spillers has joined the Track and Field coaching staff as assistant coach for hurdlers. This is his 26th year coaching at the collegiate level, high school and youth level.

At Mexico State University in 2013, he coached sprinters to 33 top 10 all-time school performances, including three school records in the 200m dash, 400m dash and 4x400m relay. That relay team also broke the Western Athletic Conference record, as well. Two athletes qualified for the U.S. Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 400m. They finished third and fourth.

While at UTSA, Spillers worked primarily with women’s 400m runners and helped the 4x400m relay team advance to the NCAA West Region Meet.

Spillers also coached 12 athletes to state championships and several runners-up and top 10 finishes in multiple high school state meets.

In 2004 and 2006, Spillers was named Northwest Florida Daily News Cross-Country Coach of the Year. In 2008, he was named Northwest Florida Daily News Track and Field Coach of the Year.

He is the Head Coach of the Alamo City Track Club and has youth athletes who compete in T.A.A.F. and AAU. In two years, he helped coach two national champions, two runners up and nine All-Americans.

Spillers completed his certifications as a USTFCCA Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Track and Field Technical Coaching and Track and Field Program Management.

He graduated from New Mexico State University with a degree in Individualized Studies and Exercise Science. Spillers served in the U.S. Army for five years and the Air National Guard for eight years.

Spillers is married to Joy, and they have one daughter, Keisha.
