Men's Cross-Country Begins Season at UIW Twilight

SAN ANTONIO (Aug. 31, 2024) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) men's cross-country team opened its 2024 season at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) Twilight Meet held at the Classics Elite Soccer Complex.

Head Coach Brett Charlton commented, "This was a good meet for our team to get exposure to high caliber competition. Everyone that competed today set a foundation and now has something they can build off of. Most of our returners ran faster today that they did last year at this time. That shows the growth of many of our athletes."

Joseph Gonzalez led the way for the Saints. His time in the 6000m was 18:50.1, just missing the all-time Saints record of 18:39.2 set by Jose Zarate in 2022. Newcomer Isai Moran ran with a time of 19:03, followed by Sabastian Moreno at 19:19, Kruz Malesich at 19:51, Tony Favella at 20:05 and Jose Perez at 20:08, JoseCarlos Hernandez at 20:20.

The Saints will get set for their next meet on Sept. 13 at the UIW Invitational, which will be held at Windcrest Golf Club in Windcrest, Texas.
