OLLU Cross-Country Sweeps Runner of the Week Awards

WACO, Texas (Oct. 15, 2024) – The outstanding performances of Jose Perez and Valeria Peña of Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) have been duly recognized. Perez merited the title of the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) Men's Cross-Country Runner of the Week for Oct. 7-13, while Peña was selected as the RRAC Women's Runner of the Week for the same dates. This is the seventh set of awards of the 2024 cross country season.

Perez, who placed 17th as the Saints hosted the OLLU Cross Country Invite on Saturday, achieved a remarkable feat. The sophomore from Laredo, Texas, ran a personal best time of 26:53 in the 8000m distance. There were 71 runners in the field of 11 teams, and OLLU finished fourth.

Peña was the top finisher for the Saints in the women's race at the OLLU Invite. The sophomore from Laredo, Texas, posted a personal best time of 23:14 on the 6000m course to finish 24th in the field of 79 competitors. OLLU placed fifth in the women's team results.
