Saints Take Both Games Against LCU

PINEVILLE, LA. (March 18, 2023) – The Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team remained undefeated in Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) play with two wins against Louisiana Christian University (LCU) on Saturday. The Saints improve to 22-4 overall and 8-0 in the RRAC. The Wildcats drop to 13-13 overall and 7-3 in RRAC play.

Head Coach Bruce Lenington said, "This was a battle for first place in the conference and both teams played with a ton of intensity. Both games were team wins and I'm proud of their efforts."

History

The Saints were 1-1 against the Wildcats prior to the games.

Game one

The Saints won a competitive first game against the Wildcats. OLLU took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Alyssa Flores walked to bring in one run and Rebecca Duran followed by scoring an unearned run. The Saints added a run to the lead in the fifth inning when Duran hit a solo home run to center field. The Wildcats put up a run in the sixth inning, but it wasn't enough as the Saints held on for the 3-1 victory. Cassandra Valdez pitched a complete game and earned the win with 10 strikeouts. Duran had a multi-hit game and the Saints totaled six hits.

Game two

The Saints scored three runs again in the second game of the series to complete the sweep. The Wildcats started strong with a sacrifice fly that scored one run in the first inning. Madison Nunn responded in the second frame with a solo home run to left field. Valdez followed with a solo home run in the third inning and Joanna Gonzalez brought in a runner on a single in the fourth inning. LCU added a late run in the sixth inning, but the Saints were strong down the stretch yet again to hang on for a 3-2 win. Angela Ramirez earned the win in the circle after pitching 5.1 innings. Valdez picked up the save after pitching in relief for 1.2 frames.
