Saints Blank Jarvis in Pair of Wins to Extend Winning Streak

HAWKINS, TEXAS (April 2, 2023) – The No. 2-ranked Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball team won both games against Jarvis Christian University (JCU) on Sunday. The Saints improve to 32-4 overall and remain perfect in the Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) at 18-0. The Lady Bulldogs drop to 20-16 overall and 4-10 in RRAC play. The Saints have prevailed in 23 straight games.

Head Coach Bruce Lenington said, "We had great starting pitching and timely hitting in both games today. This team is learning how to win in different ways."

History

The Saints were 15-5 against the Lady Bulldogs prior to the games.

Game one

The Saints started the scoring early in the first game. Alyssa Flores singled to bring in Madison Nunn and Madison Garza in the first inning. OLLU's 2-0 advantage held until the sixth inning when the Saints added more runs. Julissa Moreno reached on a fielder's choice that scored Eneli Garza, and Madison Garza followed with a triple that ended up scoring two runs. Cassandra Valdez impressed in the circle with 13 strikeouts in a complete game to earn the win. Valdez allowed only two hits and two walks. Flores finished with three RBIs and the Saints remained perfect in RRAC play. OLLU defeated the Lady Bulldogs 6-0 behind 10 hits.

Game two

The Saints' offense stayed hot in the second contest. Six different Saints players recorded at least one hit and Valdez finished with five RBIs and two home runs. Nunn added a triple and Madison Garza had a double. The Saints stole three bases and Angela Ramirez allowed only one hit in a complete game win. Ramirez struck out six batters in the run-rule six inning game. The Saints won 9-0 to earn their 32nd win of the season.
