OLLU Softball Welcomes Two Transfer Students

SAN ANTONIO (Jan. 9, 2024) – Our Lady of the Lake University (OLLU) softball announces the addition of two student-athletes to its 2024 squad. Joining the team are Grace Ross and Valeria Vielma.

Ross is a junior transfer from Huston-Tillotson University. She is a native of Austin, Texas, where she graduated from Crockett High School. The 6'0" catcher was named Offensive Player of the Year and received First Team All-Conference honors while at Huston-Tillotson. She is majoring in kinesiology.

Head Coach Bruce Lenington commented, "Grace is a game changer on the softball field. She will make an immediate impact on our team."

Ross said, "I am blessed to have an opportunity to be a contributing part of this championship team and honored to be a student at this prestigious school."

Vielma is a freshman transfer from Angelina College and a graduate of Eagle Pass High School. The 5'3" right-handed pitcher received First Team All-District honors and was in the top 10 percent of her class. She is majoring in kinesiology.

Lenington commented, "Val is a great addition to our pitching staff. She has the ability to get hitters out in different ways."

Vielma said, "I'm choosing OLLU because it felt like I was finally home. OLLU softball is a program that I always wanted to be a part of. Their desire to win makes me so excited for the years to come!"

The Saints will begin the 2024 season in February after a historic record-breaking season last year, where they won the Red River Athletic Conference regular season and tournament. They went on to capture the NAIA Regional Championships and participated in the NAIA Softball World Series.
